1. Boss level

Hulu's original Boss level Investigate the popular time-travel genre in the setting of an action film. Stalwart of the B-Movie Frank Grillo plays a former Grizzled Military Operative who is repeatedly slain by a colourful array of killers, only to have his day restarted each time he dies.

The film is structured like an old-school video game, with the main character fighting the big boss (played by Mel Gibson) while hanging out the entire time.

2. Die Hard

The original is arguably the most influential action film of all time. Bruce Willis plays John McClane, a competent assassin who is locked in a posh office building with terrorist mastermind Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman). Off-duty COP McClane uses his wits and whatever resources he has to fight Gruber, and filmmaker John Mctiernan has created a tense and committed drama in a single setting.

It's the basis for a slew of post-action series, and it could even be a Christmas film.

3. Mission-Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Every chapter of the Mission: Impossible series is worth watching, and it has one of the best track records in Hollywood. However, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, the fourth instalment, is still a cut above the others.

It's filmmaker Brad Bird's (The Incredibles) first live-action film, and it boasts one of the greatest stunts ever (as Tom Cruise's Ethan Super-Spy pursuit hangs over the side of Dubai's Burj Khalifa).

The rest of the film is similarly packed with thrilling action, demonstrating Cruise's usual unwavering dedication to his stunt work.

4. The rhythm section

Although Blake Lively's performance as an action hero isn't totally convincing, The Rhythm Section is an intriguing attempt to include in a revenge drama. Act as a woman who works with a former MI-6 agent (Right Judas) to identify the terrorists responsible for her family's death.

Director Reed Morano removes a spectacular movie chase measure that makes the entire endeavour worthwhile, but he focuses more on the action than the plot or the characters.

5.  Star trek beyond

Director Justin Lin of the Fast & Furious franchise ventured into space for Star Trek Beyond, the third instalment in producer Jj Abrams' rebooted Star Trek series.

For the series' premiere, it's a fast-paced indie storey with plenty of action, starring Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk of the STARSHIP Company and Zachary Quinto as Spock, his Vulcan second-in-command.

The corporate crew is stuck on a distant planet, where they must contend with a former Starfleet Fleet commander (Idris Elba) who is hell-bent on destroying Starfleet.

6. Terminador: Dark Fate

Late Terminator sequels may never be able to match James Cameron's originals, but the sixth movie, Terminator: Dark Fate, has a lot going for it.

Linda Hamilton reprises her role as Sarah Connor, the woman who has been mercilessly pursued by Killer Cyborgs from the future. As a terminator who acquires a conscience, it provides Arnold Schwarzenegger a new role to play.

It also features Mackenzie Davis as the latest Terminator, who gives a standout performance. All three stars are capable of taking part in some thrilling action sequences (if derived).
